Whipped off a quick one today....

I have been VERY inspired to create recently....  So today, in between laundry, haircuts and a visit with Jen, I made this little gem for the sketch over at Sketchabilities.

Here's the sketch....

......and here's mine.....

Innocence photo 41D8D6B9-CD74-45DD-97ED-669CF71EB44E-12058-00000CDDAD08C1A6.jpg

I loved the colours in this photo but I wasn't sure how to enhance the intense blue of her eyes.  Every paper seemed to compete with their colour, so I opted for a fleshy yellow and coral mix with some touches of navy.  I love this combo!

Innocence 2 photo B5B27DAB-8FC7-4762-B26C-74BFD65088BB-12058-00000CDDA635E867.jpg

I made the flowers by punching white and yellow cardstock, then wetting it and shaping it before allowing it to dry.  I used blush to add a subtle colour to the insides of the blooms and then used a bit of homemade glimmer mist and smooch on some of them.

Innocence 3 photo B87DA94A-08E1-41A1-BFF0-B8E3C2318B99-12058-00000CDD8F9409A1.jpg

This photo shows the subtle colour created by the blush and a q-tip that some have, and the more intense colour from the smooch that other's have.  The overall shimmer is the mist I made.

Thanks for peeking!

New Layout Creation

I've been thinking about trying another sketch and so I've just finished a layout for this month's sketch challenge at Once Upon A Sketch.  It was tough to incorporate their theme of "it's the weekend" but I wanted to do a little layout on my closest GF who is usally part of my weekend plans......

 photo 37d5c7a3-5b41-4338-92bf-19ed6240e53c.jpg

I was inspired to create flowers this  month and have been furiously punch - wetting - misting - wrinkling - gluing.  I'm getting better with making the things but it's definitely time consuming.  I made some of these on the layout....

Anyways, that's a wrap!

A little bit of creativity...

I was inspired by the latest sketch #201 at Skissedilla's blog....

I came up with a concept and started to scrap but I NEVER really know how it will turn out until it's done.  So....... tada!

Never Apologize For Who You Are-Skissedilla Sketch 201 photo b5f0de2a-fd07-4589-94d5-88dfea2762ee.jpg

I used miscellaneous flowers I had and then made the white ones to match but punhing them out and following a tutorial on You tube to dry emboss them....I think I like the ones I made better...

..........and I luuuuv dimensional media!

so to highlight the detail in the background, I used Gelatos to colour it and then some glittery craft paint to highlight it.

Material List
Artist Loft Watercolours
DecoArt craft acrylics
Faber-Castell Gelatos
crafter's workshop masks
stamp from Finnabair's Sunrise-Sunset line with Prima
journalling stamp from 7 gypsies
spellbinders die
provocraft embossing folder
Martha Stewart corner and edge punch set
several punches and paper piercers to create corner decoration
stitching to frame the piece

I'm pretty happy with it and of course my boys always think my creations are just the best thing they've ever seen.  They're a real confidence booster!

Thanks for peeking!

A few Layouts that I love...

Well I have been on a roll.....

Just a fun one

I think I did this one about 2 years ago....sigh....LOL....

The journalling tag hidden under the photo...

I made the paper flowers....pretty happy with how they turned out!

This photo was taken a loooong time ago but the kids just look too cute!  Budget scrapbooking (and limited access to product) = hand-cut palm tree leaves.

ok...this is a prime example or how my vision for a layout NEVER turns out how I had planned.

My scrapbooking peeps....I think I saw something like this in a magazine at the time, but now I have no idea where.  I love how the rub-ons frame the tearing.  Too pretty!  (But then I am prejudiced!)

Thanks for peeking!  Lots more to come!

Finished Product....

So I just realized that I never posted the final LO I created....

And I'm sure that I will have questions on the story behind the LO so here goes:

My wonderful DH has a favorite drink in the summer, a Rocket.  Rockets are made from 1/2 a smirnoff ice mixed with 1/2 a coors light.  While at a friends cottage, he was frustrated with continually mixing, cups not big enough...etc etc.  So a little tape and 2 straws and voila.....a new-fangled rocket delivery contraption.

Yes, he is McGuyver.

Thanks for peeking!

Art = Therapy

Whenever I get into the studio...for pleasure, not work....I relax and let go of all the stressors in life.  It's like I go to this zen place where everything is perfect and my happiness is all consuming.  Yes philosphical....but true.  I just love art....creating....

So here's a little snippet of something I put together last night.....while Skypebooking with my peep Sue S....

I have to say it was a VERY productive evening....even if I am exhausted today....

Cheers!

New Projects and a New Look

I just thought a little face lift was in order.  I see some really great blogs out there but I don't think I've achieved that level...yet!

I thought it would be really difficult to get back into the swing of things after having taken such signuificant break from Scrapbooking but I think my creative juices are flowing well.

I've done layouts of my Uncle in the past, however I'm still not satisfied with the end result.  I think until I am able to really convey all of my feelings in my journalling, it's just not a finished subject.  Maybe it never will be, but I'll keep trying.  Until then....here's my latest attempt...

I really love those little flowers that I found a few tutorials on, and when I say love, I really mean "addicted to".  Here's a video tutorial on how to make them yourself.

While I find them appropriate for feminine layouts and ones like the one above, I'm having trouble adapting their use to my husband and boys.  So, the next layout, is sans floral.

I'm pushing myself to really do more creative things with paper...so this one I sprayed with  a home-made paint spray.  I diluted craft store acrylic paint with water at a ratio of about 1 part paint to 2 parts water and then I used a little dollar store spray bottle to deliver the fine (not so fine) mist.

Next I'm hoping to try making my own glimmer mist....I'm sure there's a tutorial on that somewhere!

Cheers! xo

Snow Day Creating

Snow days are typically few and far between, so having a second snow day today after yesterday's storm, is unusual. I'm noticing how different things are now.... No more entertaining and keeping the boys busy while I try to get work done. They find things to do without me around.... I guess my heart hurts just a little bit at the thought of how things are changing so quickly. It's so easy to take every day for granted....and your kids right along with it.

So yesterday, my youngest and I set aside some time to scrapbook. It was fun having him in the studio with me, absorbed in his creations. I must remember to cherish these moments.

Here's what we created.....

Enjoy!
