I hate bullies!

Being on school council, I play a part in the decision-making process for some of the school year's details. The big deal last week, was our selection of a photographer for this year. It was brought to council's attention in the fall, that several parents aren't pleased with the quality of the current photographer. This photographer has been operating with the school for 6 years and has gotten comfortable in his role. I, as a parent and conscientious consumer, want value for my money. I don't want blurry or shadowed photos and I'd prefer not to have food-all-over-their-faces and stickers-on-their-shirt type photos either. So we designed a panel of 4 to oversee the interviews (including one with the current photographer....we are nothing if not fair-minded).

We found that the other three photographers conducted themselves with immense professionalism. The current photographer, proceeded to arrive at the school two days before the scheduled meeting in hopes of questioning the principal, but only succeeded in interrogating the secretary. For the meeting in question, he was pompous, arrogant and ignorant and then attempted to bribe us with hockey tickets for the saturday night game. (gasp!) The entire panel was insulted. The following day, he phoned the principal first thing .....I can only assume to "persuade" her to his way of thinking. We are beyond unimpressed and can't recommend him any longer to the council.

Don't ever allow yourself to be bullied into silence. I really hate bullies!!!!!

This week had an entirely different swing, as I met with the local health unit representative and dietician to discuss our school's "Healthy eating Plan".....or lack of....(yes, insert red face here). As a parent of young children, I hear WAY too often that my kids want the same snacks as Bobby or Suzie (ie: candy, chips or cookies) and how unfair I am being for not giving in. Why are these children allowed to eat garbage everyday?????? It makes it that much harder for those of us parents who don't give in....we who actually say "No". Anyways, we've come up with some really exciting plans involving healthy alternatives like fruit and vegetable platters for healthy snack days and a healthy alternative hot lunch where there would be a buffet of options like wraps and burritos...YUM!!!! Then I'm gonna try a smoothie day instead of an icecream day at the end of the year...I hope the kids like it as much as I think they will!!!!

That's my life in a nutshell for this week! Oh yeah....and I'm off to the spa this weekend for some rejuvenation...wooooooohooooo!!!! I get to hang out in my bathrobe for the day and they have the best hot basalt stone treatments!!! If you have a chance to try them out, definitely do so! You won't be disappointed!

Take some "ME" time this weekend ladies! Relax!

Cheers!
